Beer, Music and Brewing are just a few of my Favorite Things

New Batch

Well like I had mentioned in a previous blog that I had a mold issue. Good news, not my sanitation. It is a airborne mold that will happen no matter what, especially in my neck of the woods where it is humid and rainy and the fact that I brew in the basement. I also had a fan running to try to cool it down. It doesn’t even matter that the basement is finished and I have a dehumidifier running.

I brewed last night and I am having fantastic results already.ingredients Here are the ingredients for the Rye-PA that I make, minus the 9 lbs. of extract syrup ( 4 lbs. of amber and 5 lbs of pale ). It was hot without the fan, but hey you got a do what got a do, right?? If anyone wants my recipe I would be glad to post it, it original came from the Recipator website by Andy Bear Greider. His recipe used syrup and dry extract , but mine uses all syrup and works very well. It has been very smooth and a big hit with my neighbors.

inside the pot Just look at that color….It is a beautiful golden color and smells fantastic. What beer doesn’t when it is brewing, unless you haven’t started brewing yet. Come on…..what are you waiting for??? There are so many great sites out there for beginners and I hope that I can help since I’ve only been doing it for 7 months on my own. Since I am “new” my mistakes are still pretty fresh. Plus I love spreading the word and getting more people interested.

racking

Here is the fun part…racking you beer into the primary fermenter . As you can see it is just a 6.5 gallon Ale Pail bucket. The greatest piece of equipment for the homebrewer… the wort chiller. I don’t know what I would use to chill from boiling to 74 deg. if I didn’t have it.

Just so you know….as of this morning at 7:30am I had a real good aggressive fermentation and before I left for work at 9:00am I had to switch over from my double bubble airlock to a piece of tubing into a bucket of water, because I had foam in my airlock, all that in 12 hr period.

I will keep everyone posted on my progress with this one.
