Home repair
Those nasty little words that no one likes to hear.
My dad came into town to help me do some work around the house, more like me helping him do work around my house. The man is a machine at seventy-mmmmmppphhhh . I have a hard time keeping up with him.
If you ever have the “great idea” to clean your own gutters using a pressure washer….DON’T!!! especially with a couple of years of stuff in them….I repeat DON’T !!! Pay some one to do it. I’ve got a 2+ story house, where the gutters are well over 20 feet up. Dad told me that he had seen an ad for a wand that extends to 24ft. He has been working with this idea or some way to clean the gutters for over a year. He finally broke down and bought a small pressure sprayer for himself, 1800psi, and decided to buy this wand. Now what you have to imagine is water spraying out of a nozzle at 1800 psi at the end of a 24 ft. wand….No it gets better, add 2 years of gutter crap falling on top of you. Now that’s a show. I tried to get my wife to video tape so that we could send into AFV, but she wouldn’t do it.
I also had a hole in a gable on the roof where we had all kinds of critters getting in to eaves/crawlspace of our house. It’s not bad enough that you can hear them scritching above your head in the middle of the night and early morning, but when you can hear them walking around on the drop ceiling, FREAKOUT!!! Then you have to get them out of the house and make sure they are out before you can close up the hole.
TIP: mothballs work fantastic for getting rid of critters, raccoons and squirrels.
So after a couple of days of no sounds above our heads we were ready to close up the hole. we decided to rent scaffolding to get us up there in a safe manner, sure it was safe, but it took us longer to set up the scaffolding and to tear it down then to actually close up the hole. we thought that when we had the scaffolding maybe we would use it to clean the gutters, NOT!!! 1 1/2 hrs to set up once, we weren’t going to move them all the way around a house to clean gutters. 3 hours up and down to spend 10 mins. of cleaning huh uh… don’t think so, plus climbing up and down the scaffolding all those times. Dad figured he would put up with gutter crap instead.
BIG….BIG.. KUDOS TO MY DAD, DOUG REISINGER!!!!
