Beer, Music and Brewing are just a few of my Favorite Things

Required reading

As everyone who has home brewed knows, the first thing is to do a little “light” reading. The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Third Edition (Harperresource Book)is a must. My brother told me to get the book and start reading before I even had the equipment. It has proved to be a very valuable book to have.

If you haven’t been around any brewing or on any brewery tours the book is an absolute must. You need to know what is actually going on during the process and what each element of the brewing process is and what all of your ingredients add to the brew.

I had had the ability to go to a BOP(brew on premises) where I got to brew my own beer using the facilities at the BOP. I paid an upfront fee that included the ingredients, bottles, recipe and the equipment and whatever assistance that I needed. I had done that a couple of times, so I had the basic skills. The BOP that I went to was the Brewkeeper in Cleveland, OH. We’re lucky to have two of them in NE Ohio. Tours through breweries and microbreweries are always good times also and very informative.

There are also many books out there with recipes. Every couple of years they come out with new books that are revisions. They are mostly all recipes that have won competitions, so they are tried and true. Most of them are also already geared to the 5-6 gallon home brew breakdown.

All these books can be found through either your local home brew shop or through sites like Amazon.com. You can also find them sometimes on eBay. That is where I got mine from. Surprisingly I also found home brew books in the public library, Nice!!
